Music Career

A majority of Peter Okoye musical exploits can be attributed to his partnership with his brother (Paul Okeye now Rude Boy) in the defunct Psquare. He kicked started off his career by starting an Acapella group together with his brother, which was highly influenced and inspired by Michael Jackson’s dancing steps. Over time, they began to gain popularity in the city of Jos, Nigeria and were invited to perform at events, shows and ceremonies.

While with Psquare’s, the duo (him and his brother) released their first studio album under the Squared Records label which was a monumental success. The album is titled ‘Last Nite’. It even got them nominated for the KORA Awards. In 2005, they release another album and this one was titled “Get Squared”. One of the hit tracks of that album was “Busy Body”. It rose to become a mega hit within and outside Nigeria and greatly boosted their popularity in the entertainment industry.

Of all the albums they had released earlier, perhaps none was as successful as the “Game Over” album which they released two years later after “Busy Body”. The album sold about 8 million copies within a very short time. They success of that album perhaps may not be unconnected to the fact that it featured top international American artistes in the likes of Akon, Rick Ross, and T.I. the songs which had these artists included “Chop my Money” ft. Akon, “Onyinye” ft. Rick Ross, and “Ejeajo” ft. T.I.

“Psquare” has been a brand in Nigeria for many years now. It was founded by Peter and Paul Okeye and managed by their brother, Jude Okeye. This was the stage name for the Square Records label artists who entertained their fans for many years with most of their songs topping the billboard charts for many weeks. However, due a number of controversial yet viable reasons, the twins decided to split and serve their music as solo artists. Reports have it that Peter Okoye was the one who requested for the split of Psquare and decided remain a solo artist.

The Split of PSquare

In the years that passed, due to personal, irreconcilable differences with his twin brother, Peter had to part ways with his brother, Paul, and went solo. Both are still doing well in their respective fields with the release of hit songs such as “Ebeano” by Mr. P.

Many peole have volunteered many different reasons for the PSquare split and if looked at critically, these have an element of substance to bank on.

For example, one faction posit that the duo split because of marriage problems between their spouses. Another faction are of the opinion that the split of Psquare is not unconnected to the fact that Peter Okeye (Mr. P) argued that he felt cheated as his brother Paul Okoye (Rude Boy) had more of his songs featured in their joint albums. To end the feud, therefore, Mr. P had to leave Psquare, relocate with his family, and start a new career for himself by becoming a solo artist.

While with Psquare, Peter Okoye has received several awards and nominations some of which include:

  1. BET Awards,

  9. The Headies,

However, since becoming a solo artist, Peter Okoye is yet to receive any award. Hopefully, he will get one soon as he keeps improving upon himself daily.

Endorsement Deals

While with Psquare, Peter Okoye and his twin brother, Paul Okeye (a.k.a., Rude Boy) had earned endorsement deals as telecom giant, Globacom ambassadors. Part of the booties of that award was gift of customized cars to their names.

Aside from this, and other lucrative endorsements, Mr. P got a deal with Olympic Milk. As at the time of writing this, the artist has not gotten any endorsement deal since becoming a solo artist.
