M.I Abaga Biography And Net Worth

Born Jude Abaga, M.I. (short for Mr. Incredible) is a Nigerian rapper, hip hop recording artiste, songwriter, and producer. He is the CEO of CHOCOLATE CITY record label. M. I. was born on the 4th of October 1981 in Jos, plateau state, Nigeria where he lived and grew but he is from Takum in Taraba state.

This Nigerian rap demigod is the oldest child and brother to popular Nigerian artist, Jesse Jagz and Jason who is also very active in the entertainment industry (though not as popular as M. I. and Jesse). Jesse Jagz is a prolific rapper like M. I., while Jason is a gifted writer, one of his works being for Nigeria’s most famous television soap, TINSEL. M.I does majorly rap music, and is Nigeria’s undisputed rap soldier and veteran rapper. If you ask me, he is the best rapper living in Africa at the moment. M.I. Abaga is a brand and is among the top 20 richest musicians in Nigeria. He makes his money from music sales, his record Label, endorsements, stage performances, etc. from where he had made a fortune of over $100,000,000.00 for himself.

So, let’s get a bit deeper into the biography of this African rap demigod, and also have a sneak peek into his net worth.

M.I Abaga Biography And Net Worth

Birth, Parentage, and Education

MI is the son of Pastor Chris and Mrs Lydia Abaga and was born on 4 October, 1981 in Jos, Nigeria although he is a native of Takum in Taraba state, Nigeria. He is the eldest child of the family of five which has all male offsprings. M. I. had his basic education at Baptist High School, Jos before moving to Calvin College, Michigan, United states where he studied business administration and economics.

The Journey Into Music

Report has it that M. I. began to nurse and nourish his ambition for music when his mother bought him a basic musical notation (i.e., musical instrument). In his teenage years, he would regularly check out the work of established veteran acts like JayZ, Lauryn hill, DMX, and other artists like Pablo Neruda, Sarah Maclachlan, Bob Marley, etc.

MI was also a good poet and used to perform regularly at the Calvin college’ HipHopera’ show, which was one of the schools major hip hop shows and concerts. He did well there at will later returned to Nigeria in 2003 to pitch his tent in the Nigerian music and rap industry where the likes of mode 9 and foreign acts had already been the flag bearers.

On The Return to Nigeria

Some of the people who were quite instrumental to M. I.’s success included his friend Jeremiah Gyang (then a signee to Chocolate City) who took him around Lagos, Abuja and Enugu for shows. Another person is Djinee whom he met in Enugu and would later team up with him to produce his mix tape from where the single ‘Safe’ was birthed. “Safe” later became so popular and phenomenal to M. I.’s career and earned him several awards, recording massive airplays on Nigeria and other African radio/TV stations and music video stations.

Before being signed on to Chocolate City owned at the time by Audu Maikori, M.I. had earlier founded his own record label, “Loopy Records” in Jos, Plateau which had signees like Jesse Jagz, Ice Prince, Ruby, Lindsay, E Kelly and E Bulk. Some of these Loopy records acts like Ice Prince moved on to Chocolate City. At the time, Audu Maikori was the C.E.O of CHOCOLATE CITY but later resigned in 2015 and M. I. took over. He thus had to relocate from Jos to Abuja, Nigeria’s federal capital territory (FCT) to manage the record label which signees include Ruby Gyang, Young Marley, Coker, Jesse Jagz, etc.

Music and Career Successes

M.I. has recorded huge successes in the Nigeria entertainment industy. His debut album is “Let’s talk about it” with the sample mixtape, “Illegal Music 1” which has spun in 3 parts through 2009, 2012, and 2016 respectively.

M.I. has worked really hard and with the combination of intelligence, grace and favour, has risen to an indelible height in his musical career. He is a perfect case study of someone who has not allowed his physique to defy his success potentials. What height could not give him; he has gotten via his lyrics. Today, he co-owns Rytchus era, a music production company, which other owner is his brother, Jesse Jagz.
