Henry Onyekuru Biography and Networth…Henry Onyekuru is a Nigerian footballer who plays  his football for Galatasary in Turkey, on loan from Everton Football Club in England and he plays as a forward.

Birth and Early Life

Henry Chukwuemeka Onyekuru was born in Onitsha, Anambra State on the 5th of June, 1997. As opposed to the popular belief that he started his football career at Aspire Academy in Senegal, Henry in an interview disclosed that it was actually in a football academy in Lagos, Weekend football academy, that he started his football career.

This was where he was when Aspire Academy came to scout young players in Nigeria in 2010. It was at Aspire Academy that he continued training and got educated at the early age of 13. He developed and trained at the academy until he graduated in 2015 and he was signed by a partner club the academy, K.A.S. Eupen, a football club in Belgium.

N/B: Aspire Academy in Senegal is a sport academy with its’ headquarter based in the Aspire zone in Qatar, with a goal to scout and help develop athletes, while also giving them secondary school education,


Henry joined Eupen in 2015; a club owned by the Aspire one foundation. He was 18 years old when he moved to Belgium. He made his debut for Eupen on the 5th of September, 2015 in a 2-2 draw against K.F.C. Dessel sport in the former second Division in Belgium also known as Proximus Legaue. He played  19 times for Eupen in his debut season as a striker and he scored six times for the club, thereby helping Eupen promote to the Belgian First Division that season following the relegation of RWS Brussels the actual winner of the league as a result of its inability to acquire a professional football license and thus paving way for Eupen who was second to be promoted.

In Henry Onyekuru’s first professional season in the top league, he made his debut against S.V. Zulte Waregem, Eupen lost the game 3-0 on the 30th of July, 2016. Onyekuru played 38 league games for Eupen in the 2016-2017 season and he scored 22 times making him the joint top scorer of the season with Lukasz Teodorczyk of Anderlecht, who was handed the trophy of highest goal scorer based on highest away goals. He also played three times in the National cup and he scored twice. That same season he came third in the Young player of the year award in Belgium behind Landry Dimata of Oostende and Youri Tielemans of Anderlecht.

As a result of his performance, he attracted interest from different clubs in Europe such as Arsenal, Liverppol, Southampton, West Brom. He was even profiled by Skysports as a result of these interests from top clubs in Europe. After weeks of speculation, Onyekuru took to his instagram page to disclose that he had signed for Everton football club. Henry was signed by Everton for 7 million Euros in 2017. However, he was unable to get work permit because he had not represented Nigeria for a particular timeframe, he was loaned back to the Belgian first division where played for Anderlecht for the 2017-2018 season to continue his football development. At Anderlecht, Henry played 19 times in the league and he scored 9 goals, he also played once in the National cup and scored once, while he played six times in the Europa league and he fired blank. However, his season was cut short for many months in December 2017 and he returned back to Everton in January 2018 for recovery and rehabilitation. Despite this setback, Henry Onyekuru was awarded the Belgium Talent of the year on the 8th of February, 2018. He also won the Belgian super cup with Anderlecht. After recovering from injury, Henry was loaned out to Glatasaray for the 2018-2019 football season for a loan fee reported to be 700,000 Euros. At Galatasaray, he has played 15 games in the Super lig and he has scored 6 times, he also participated in Galatasaray woeful campaign in the UEFA champions league, he played in the five matches of the group stage but fired blank. To this effect, Henry, still has not opened his scoring account in UEFA organised competition.

National Team Call up

Henry Onyekuru was first called up for the super eagles of Nigeria for the international friendlies in May, 2017against the senior team of Corsica and Togo. On the 1st of June 2017, Henry made his super eagles debut in a 3-0 friendly win against Togo. He was also invited to play for Nigeria in the 2018 world cup qualifier match; the match between the Super Eagles and Algeria. Also, in the same year, he played for Nigeria in the friendly match between Nigeria and Argentina. Henry missed the world cup in Russia as a result of his long term injury lay off while playing for Anderlecht in December 2017. On the 12th of September 2018, Henry scored his first international goal for the super eagles against Liberia after a 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier match against Seychelles; which the super eagles won 3-0.

Style of play

Henry Onyekuru has disclosed that his role model is his namesaqke Thiery Henry. Like his namesake, Onyekuru is also a fast paced forward with a knack for scoring goals. Onyekuru can also play on either side flank. His dribbling and pace are reminiscent of that of Thiery Henry, albeit needing more honing to become one of the best strikers in the world.

Net worth and Personal life

Henry Onyekuru net worth is not really known but is reported to be earning a whooping sum of 100,000 dollars a month, that is about 36 million naira  after tax. In his contract with Galatasaray, he is to get a win bonus of 10,000 dollars in the league.  When he signed for Everton football club in 2017, it was reported that he would receive a weekly wage of 40,000 Euro, after Everton had paid 8 million Euros as the transfer fee. He is a ‘’single bachelor’. He was named the talent of the year in the Belgian first division in year 2017. In an interview with pageone, he described his best food as plantain.
