Don Jazzy Biography and Net Worth/Endorsement

Michael Collins Ajereh was popularly known by his stage name, “Don Jazzy” and signage, “It’s Don Jazzy Again” is a Nigerian top music producer, recording artist, stage performer, and record label founder who was born in Umuahia, Abia state, Nigeria on the 26th of November, 1982. Don Jazzy was raised in Ajegunle, Lagos and together with his three siblings schooled in a Federal government college in Lagos state, Nigeria. He later studied Business Administration at the Prestigious Ambrose Ali University, Edo State.

Don Jazzy’s genres of music are R & B and Pop and for the most part of his music career, he does mainstream music production or serves as a background vocalist for his numerous clients using his well-blended baritone voice. Don Jazzy is also known for loving to do collaboration in songs; he just enjoys collaborating with other artists. Till date, he is yet to produce his own songs; he has no track of his own. He hardly sings as a solo artist. Well, that’s his pattern of music and since it’s what he loves doing, then it’s ok that way.

The “Dorobucchi” crooner, Don Jazzy, has produced a lot of albums and numerous singles for many Nigerian music artists and does perform with most of them, especially with his team members on stage. He is arguably the most successful music producer in Nigeria and the second if not the richest musician in Nigeria after Starboy Wizkid.

Music Career

Don Jazzy has always been interested in music right from his early days. At the tender age of four, he started playing instruments – first starting off with the drums and later proceeding to the bass guitar and then to other musical instruments. His skills paved way for him and he was invited by his uncle to play the drums in a church in London. While in London, young Don Jazzy utilized the opportunity given him and started working to make ends meet. As fate would have it, Don Jazzy started working at the popular Macdonald’s as a security guard where he met a Nigerian with the same dream of making it big in music, Oyedapo Daniel Oyebanjo popularly known as “D’ Banj”. In 2004, they both returned to the country and later formed the record label “Mo’hits Records” which eventually became one of the biggest record labels in the country.

The Mo’Hits Days

Some of the people who have been instrumental to the success of Mo’hits Records include D’Banj, Kas, JJC & 419 squad, and Solek. The birth of Mo’hits Records signaled the professional life of Don Jazzy who decided to take music seriously and as a full-time career partnering with “the Koko Master”, D’Banj to make that happen.

Within two years of its establishment, Mo’hits Records had produced two good albums “No Long Thing (2005)” and “Rundown/funk You Up (2016)”, and the third was on the way. The success of Mo’hits Records projected Don Jazzy into the starlight and he soon became a household name especially with his trademark intro or signage, “It’s Don Jazzy Again!”

Don Jazzy at Mo’Hits produced Wande Coal’s Mushin to Mo’Hits album, which at the time was described as the best album in Nigeria.

The Split of Mo’hits Records

Mo’hits Records produced superstars including Don Jazzy’s brother D’ Prince, and other artists like Wande Coal, Dr. Sid, and D’ Banj. In the same way, it produced numerous albums of theirs to their name. Unfortunately Don Jazzy and his premier partner, D’Banj decided to go their separate ways thus signaling the end of the Mo’hits crew. But unlike other situations in the music industry and elsewhere where after a split, one of the artists or business partners excels with the other partner going under, both Don Jazzy and D’banj are still good friends and are doing well in the music industry in their own different ways. The only thing that went off the hook of history is the name of the record label, “Mo’Hits”.

The Birth of Mavins Group

In 2012, Don Jazzy still having a lot to offer in the music industry formed “MAVINS” record label which had superstars Tiwa Savage, Reekado Banks, Koredo Bello, Di’ja, and Johnny Drille signed on to it. LadiPoe DNA Twins D’Prince and Wande Coal later left the group. Mavins later became known as “Supreme Mavin Dynasty (SMD)” but the name “Mavins” still stands till date. At Mavins, Don Jazzy produced hit singles like Adaobi, Arise, Dorobucci, etc., These are songs which have long topped the music billboard top charts in the country and globally.
